KOWLOON 廃園 // SYNTHETIC EDEN
We live in the future. Humanity has erased nature.
But unlike most dystopias, humans did not destroy themselves.
They fused with concrete and cables, giving rise to a new species.
Memories of wind, the scent of trees, the sound of water : all lost.
Only photos and sounds remain as echoes of what once was.
In their attempt to escape, they build virtual refuges.
Fragile reconstructions based on approximations and interpretations.
These digital forests pulse with life that never truly existed.
The sunlight is a simulation, drifting across synthetic horizons,
Users wander through these fabricated landscapes,
seeking a calm they cannot remember,
a connection they cannot feel in their fused bodies of wire and stone.
Sometimes, the systems fail. Colors distort. Sounds skip.
Glitches appear, reminding visitors that even a perfect simulation is still a shadow.
And still, they return
to walk among virtual trees, to breathe an air they cannot touch,
to remember, even in approximation, the essence of life
that their species once abandoned.
